The Muk Jong Kong Company

The name of our company is THE MUK JONG KONG COMPANY, which translated from Chinese Cantonese dialect means the "THE KING OF WOODEN MEN COMPANY." While the title may seem pretentious to some, it simply means we are masters of this art -- the construction of wooden dummies. No one knows more about the creation of Muk Yang Jongs. Although we now have a new name, our company is now the oldest wooden dummy manufacturer in the world.

Master Thornton has personally constructed wooden dummies since 1988. In the year 1990, he created THE GREAT LION COMPANY and began the commercial construction of traditional Wing Chun dummies. In 1996, THE GREAT LION COMPANY began making a variation of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do dummy. Later, in 2002, the Company began making traditional Choy Lay Fut Ching Jongs and later introduced the Hung Gar wooden dummy.

In 2005, Master Thornton opened his own martial arts school in Doraville, Georgia and sold THE GREAT LION COM0PANY.

In September of 2006, Master Thornton re-acquired the assets of the old company and has reopened his wooden dummy business on a very small scale as THE MUK JONG KONG COMPANY.

The goal of the new company is to continue the established tradition, begun in 1990 by Master Thornton -- under the banner of THE GREAT LION COMPANY -- of producing quality wooden dummies and related accessories at a reasonable price.

Master Thornton works alone in the thoughtful solitude of a very small shop now. Although his quality jongs are still very much in demand, he has limited the number of new signature dummies created each month. The goal is to ship constructed dummies (those not in stock) within two weeks of receipt of deposit, but the customer should keep in mind that delays can be caused by problems beyond his control, such as vendor delays, equipment failure, and delays by the carrier. He will do everything within his control to see that the customer gets his equipment on time.
