Chi Sao (also written as Chi Sau and Chee Sau) is most often translated as "sticking hands." Chi Sao practice drills are used to development automatic reflexes triggered upon contact with an opponent. Chi Sao also trains the idea of "sticking" to the opponent.
Used primarily in Wing Chun (also written as Wing Tsun and Ving Tsun), Chi Sao is practiced by two people maintaining forearm contact while executing attack and counter-attack techniques, thereby training each other to sense changes in body mechanics, pressure, momentum and "feel." The increased sensitivity helps a practitioner attack and counter an opponent's movements precisely, quickly and with the appropriate technique.
Chi Sao includes rolling hands drills (Luk Sao). Luk Sao participants push and "roll" their forearms against each other in a circle while trying to remain relaxed. The aim is to become sensitive to pressure, test resistances and find defensive gaps.
Chi Sao is also used by many Jeet Kune Do schools that recognize the Wing Chun foundations in JKD.
The term CHI SAO REVOLUTION is a true description of what can happen with your own -- or your student's -- progress in Chi Sao. From basic structure and conditioning through advanced Chi Sao combinations with moving stances and kicks, one piece of equipment can be your ultimate training partner.
