Wing Chun Complete Freestanding Dummy

The freestanding dummy represents a step forward in the evolution of the traditional muk yang jong. In the beginning the Wing Chun dummy was planted in the ground and there was little movement in the arms, leg and no movement in the body. It was truly a “dead dummy”. When Yip Man, the last Grandmaster of Wing Chun, moved to Hong Kong, he lived in a small apartment with little room to “plant” a dummy in the ground so his students “hung” the dummy on a stand mounted to a wall. This type of jong not only had arms and a leg which moved slightly, but also the dummy itself moved by bouncing and sliding on/with the support slats. Since the death of Yip Man, and then the retirement of Koo Sang, the King of Jongs, the manufacture of dummies spread around the world. The Muk Jong Kong Company is proud to present the next generation of Wing Chun Dummies, the “freestanding dummies”.

These unique dummies stand on their own legs and are adjustable to different heights to accommodate the different heights of individual practitioners. The arm and front leg placement is exactly the same as on the traditional Wing Chun dummies. There is a full 240 degree workout radius. The steel or steel core laminated front leg serves as both a kicking leg and a supporting leg. These dummies are very stable cannot be tipped even with the strongest blows and kicks. These freestanding dummies can be mounted on optional swivel lock wheels which allow the dummy to move in different directions when struck. This type of construction also lets you measure the amount of snapping energy applied by measuring the distance the dummy moves away from you. The dummy can be anchored so that it doesn’t move simply by locking or chocking the wheels.

Additionally, we highly recommend the purchase of the optional lock wheels with your order unless you plan to anchor the dummy to the floor or to a platform (in which case, you don't need them). We also recommend adding the optional support slat holes and the support slats (hangers) if you think you might possibly want to mount the dummy in the traditional way to a stand at some time in the future. It is much less expensive to add these options during the construction of the equipment than to do it at a later date.
